Colour Mixing with Pipettes

This is our colour mixing, using food colouring, water and pipettes to create some beautiful multi coloured trays.  A great open ended way of exploring colour and colour mixing that was really popular with the girls.

I started them off with some red, blue, yellow and black and a jam jar of water, suggesting they make lots and lots of different colours to fill all the trays.

They got busy starting to mix their colours, we chatted as they were mixing about how we might make a certain colour, e.g green or purple and then explored how lighter and darker shades were made.

They absolutely loved using the pipettes and Shoeshine got the hang of it straight away.

The trays almost full.
I left them out for the following day and before breakfast they were industriously adding more colours!

The finished trays with the wide array of colours, but a definite presence of pink!

This was a really lovely way to look at colour and I definitely need to do some more activities with pipettes.  I was amazed at how precise they were at using the pipettes.

    1. Thanks, yes the trays are great, 10x10 too! They came from our local scrapstore, which sources junk (paper, trays, card, ribbons etc) from local business and tries to reuse it. I think they were originally medical storage trays for something, sorry to not be more helpful. Thanks for stopping by. Ellie
